Directions

When travelling North, there are 2 directions to the Cottage – you can travel via Ambleside, or along the edge of Coniston Water.

Lake View route: leave the M6 at junction 36 then at roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A590 (signposted Barrow). Follow the A590, and after 3.5 miles, take the sliproad left, and take the first exit on the roundabout to continue along the A590. Turn right onto the A5092, and bear right on to A5084. After approx 6 miles turn right on to A593 at the junction opposite The Wilson Arms. After 2 ¼ miles, turn left onto Station Road (the Church is on your left and the Fish & Chip shop on your right) and follow the road round and up the hill. Turn left on to Old Furness Road and you should immediately see a signpost “The Banks” to the right. The road is steep for a short section, but it soon levels out and takes you to Bank Terrace.

Ambleside route: leave the M6 at junction 36, then at roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A590 (signposted Barrow), and keep on this road when it becomes the A591. At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit on to the A5284 / Windermere Road and then turn right on to Hellsfell Hall. Turn left onto the A5284 / Windermere Road and at the roundabout take the 3rd exit on to A591 / Windermere Road.Bear left on to A5095 / Borrans Road and turn left onto the A593. After the BP Garage, take the next right turn onto Station Road and follow the road round and up the hill. Turn left on to Old Furness Road and you should immediately see a signpost “The Banks” to the right. The road is steep for a short section, but it soon levels out and takes you to Bank Terrace.

There is a designated parking space at the end of the row of cottages with a name plaque to show which space belongs to Miner’s Cottage see photo.

Parking

We have a private parking space at the end of the terrace, where it can stay for the duration giving you a more relaxing break, but please note that it is not suitable for low profile sports cars!!
